New Hall Military Museum Chestnut Street (east of Fourth Street) Philadelphia, PA 19106 (215) 597-8974 Hours: Daily, 9:00am-5:00pm Admission: Free The New Hall Military Museum is contained in a reconstructed edifice that once housed the U.S. Department of War and dates back to 1790. Inside, you'll find uniforms from the Revolutionary War, as well as authentic medals of honor, weaponry such as muskets and powder horns, and other interesting relics from days gone by.
The museum is of particular interest to history-minded tourists and war buffs; they'll enjoy items like the old weapons and their various uses. To help the rest of us along, dioramas are set up all over the place, detailing events such as several highlights of the Revolutionary War. These presentations are very straightforward and do an excellent job of explaining the strategy and placement utilized by our troops as we sought to gain our Independence from those wily British.
Of particular interest is the Marine Corps memorial, also on site. This well-composed structure invites us to pause for a moment and reflect on those who have given their lives so that this country may continue in peace and prosperity. Very elegantly handled, as is everything in the museum. Don't miss out if you're at all interested in the military or the Revolutionary War.
