This beautiful chapel, which is located in the historical district of Philadelphia, is housed in a Georgian style of architecture and was completed in 1754. A pretty remarkable fact about the church is that it was completely funded by lotteries set up by Benjamin Franklin, which was a very innovative idea at the time. The church itself is a testament to Franklin's ingenuity and perseverance.
Christ Church was first utilized by the Anglicans of the Church of England, which was the religion imported to this country by the colonists, as it was the one practiced in Britain at the time. This is evident when viewing the interior, as brass markers showcase the pews where such worshippers as George Washington, John Adams, Betsy Ross, and their families used to frequent. Two blocks over lies Christ Church Burial Ground, where several parishioners have been laid to rest.
The Church is very beautiful, with its huge steeple and bell tower, and it is definitely recommended that you stop in for a few minutes, or even take in a service if you can. It's another excellent stop on your tour of old Philadelphia.
